Ad-hoc 1:1 or Group Session:
Supervision is a structured support system to enable a therapist to gain competence and develop their skill in a safe and confidential environment. It is essential that therapists have the opportunity to seek advice, gain practical experience and share therapeutic methods to establish and maintain competence. The supervision relationship provides the opportunity for this. Supervision provides a knowledgable and supportive environment for the therapist to develop their skills and to manage their work and support their clients in the most productive and ethical way.
1:1 supervision would generally be a 1 hour session via skype or phone. There is also the option to join twice yearly group skype sessions, where you can meet and be part of a larger supervision community. Group skype sessions usually consist of a minimum of 2 people and last between 1 and 2 hours, depending upon numbers, to ensure that everyone gets the chance to discuss their own case studies and to obtain advice and support where they need it, groups do not usually exceed 6 supervisees.
Those in full time practice require approximately 10 hours of supervision each year. For those in part time practice, approximately 5 hours is required. This could be a combination of face to face meetings (1:1 or group) along with email and telephone communication.
